Content

Ooh, that is sticky

Content makes your site sticky. Stickiness is a measure of how long a visitor stays at your site. The absolute worst thing that can happen is for your visitors to nose around for a minute and then head over to Yahoo! It's hard enough to get people to your site, you don't want to lose them because it is not interesting.

Don't let it get stale

If you want people to come back more than twice, you will have to spend a lot of time keeping your content fresh. Imagine this: a visitor is so impressed with your site that she tells several friends about it after her first visit. The next week she returns, only to find that there is nothing new to look at. That will probably be her last visit.

Content providers

The reason you go to Yahoo! regularly is because it always has something you want: directory, search, news, weather, stock quotes, sports, yellow pages, and maps.

There are content providers that will help you add these things to your site, and most for free.

Help with Scripting

Add functionality to your site with the help of Hot Scripts.com. It has loads of scripts and a useful forum.

News

Help your users keep up on the current events.

Web directory

Create your own like I did at FindaLink.net. Or use the ODP data like at Married Adults.com.

Web search

Everybody does it. Quick, where can you find a site that sells Samsonite luggage? Web search will get you there.

Weather

How does it look outside? Every time I prepare to go out of town, I look up the weather at FindaLink.net.

Trivia

Did you know that sound travels five times faster underwater than it does through the air?

Information about inventions, history, animals, sports, geography, or science can hold your audience's attention.

Eye-catching graphics

Great looking graphics or photographs can really enhance your site.

Write your own

I write my own content for MarriedAdults.com and for this site. Check out To BE or Not to BE.
